RH Reality Check Post: Countdown to Conscience Clause Regulation

September 19, 2008

Today at RH Reality Check, a site/blog providing “information and analysis for reproductive health,” I have a piece on HHS’s proposed “physician conscience” rule. The deadline for submitting public comments is rapidly approaching (9/25!), so see the post for a link to where you can submit your thoughts. The post also covers the troubling lack of definition in the proposal, the technical barriers those following the issue have run into with Leavitt’s blog posts and the posting of the proposed rule and public comments (along with the unsatisfactory response I received from HHS on this issue), and a brief review of some of the already submitted comments.

I’d love it if you’d check it out – it’s my first invited original piece for RHRC!

Good post, Rachel! But FYI, I clicked on the link that says “the correct URL is presently…” and it was a broken link. The second link “view the proposed rule and comment” is fine.

I can’t figure out how to view comments by following the second link. I commented way back in the first week, and now I’m nervous that my comment won’t be there!

It may be something on the back end – I’ll have them check, thanks. When you follow the link, there’s the docket name, number, ID at the top. Under that, and just above the instruction on how to comment, is a bit that says “Add Comments.” Just click on the yellow thought/dialog image to the right and you’ll be able to submit your comment.

Doh. Just realized you’re asking about *viewing* comments – not enough coffee yet! You have to follow the link in the first sentence of the “Advocates Talk Back” section to view them, and click on each comment one by one. Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to just browse them all on the docket page.

    Update: it’s fixed! Thanks again!

YES I am so happy about this!
We are on our way to reverse abortion “rights” and end infanticide!

Well, as words have meanings and I’m a bit weary of the anti-choice attempts to deny this fact, I feel compelling to explain that an “infant” is a child from birth to age 1 year. So, no, the HHS rule will not “end infanticide.” Interesting, though, that your happiness seems to stem from attacking abortion through reducing access rather than addressing any of the issues that lead women to choose abortion in the first place.

    Zygote, infant, whatever.
