Oh, Cursewords!

June 4, 2008

Dear readers,
Today has been one of those days. The husband got in a car wreck in the one vehicle we share. Luckily everyone (and the dog) involved are all just fine. When that was all sorted out, we returned home to find that the refrigerator had been left open all day, and reached 60 degrees. Of course, we just did a full week’s grocery shopping two days ago – not small change these days.

It occurred to me though that I might as well use this opportunity to give you some links to info about food safety, because that’s a health issue, too. So here you are.

Keeping food safe during an emergency – USDA resource on how long various foods stay safe in a power outage

FoodSafety.gov – clearinghouse of government food safety information

Food Safety in a power outage – from the American Red Cross

MedlinePlus: Food Safety – links to tons of resources on food safety topics (including the five second rule)

The FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition

Sorry to hear you had such a bad day! I’ve never left my refrigerator open, but I have left food sitting out of it and had to throw it away.
