At Our Bodies Our Blog: An Essay on Childbirth Choices
The post, An Essay on the Factory Model of Childbirth, has selections from Lauren Plante’s essay in the International Journal of Feminist Approaches to Bioethics, in which she condemns the rising cesarean rate and compares current U.S. childbirth practices to the industrial revolution.
It’s deliberately provocative. If you have access to the full-text, there are some assertions I don’t necessarily feel 100% comfortable with, but I get that they’re there to make people discuss the issue. The selections in the OBOB post are focused on U.S. women’s choices and autonomy in birth, which is definitely a worthwhile discussion.
