Salon’s Broadsheet on SB1065/HB890 – Forced Drug Tests for Pregnant Women
February 25, 2009
The bill I posted and criticized recently, which would require drug and alcohol testing of certain pregnant women in Tennessee, has caught the attention of Salon’s Broadsheet, who were nice enough to include a link back here in their post on the bill.
In the post, Nancy Goldstein makes excellent points about the existing lack of availability of adequate facilities for mothers seeking drug treatment.

Slightly OT but related, I saw this at ThinkProgress:
Colorado state senator says HIV testing for pregnant women rewards ‘sexual promiscuity.’
Today, Colorado State Sen. Dave Schultheis (R) caused outrage by announcing that he would vote against a bill requiring HIV tests for pregnant women because the disease “stems from sexual promiscuity” and he doesn’t think the government should reward “unacceptable behavior.”

Why are men so interested in what women do with their bodies?
