UNFPA Funding Restored
Last week, President Obama restored funding to the United Nations Population Fund. According the UNFPA’s release:
President Obama said: “I look forward to working with Congress to restore U.S. financial support for the U.N. Population Fund. By resuming funding to UNFPA, the U.S. will be joining 180 other donor nations working collaboratively to reduce poverty, improve the health of women and children, prevent HIV/AIDS and provide family planning assistance to women in 154 countries.”
For some relatively recent history and discussion from the Bush administration, see this June post from Our Bodies Our Blog.
So that means that at least two things from my Blog for Choice Day 2009 wish list have already been taken care of. Thanks to Cara from the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance for reminding me that the global gag rule wasn’t the only thing to note and celebrate!
