Leavitt Link Changed Again on Controversial Post

Posted by Rachel on August 14, 2008

If you have linked to HHS Secretary Leavitt’s initial post on physician conscience, be aware that the URL has now changed twice, so you may have a broken link in your commentary. The old links are returning 404 not found errors.

When first published on August 7th, the URL to the post was http://secretarysblog.hhs.gov/my_weblog/2008/08/physician-con-2.html

By the morning of August 9th, the URL had changed to http://secretarysblog.hhs.gov/my_weblog/2008/08/physician-con-3.html

As of this morning (August 14), the correct URL is http://secretarysblog.hhs.gov/my_weblog/2008/08/physician-consc.html

I’ll keep updating here and at OBOS if it changes again so that our commentary still connects to the post.

Now, who’s with me on being paranoid enough to at least question why the URL keeps changing on this post that has been heavily linked to and commented on by those objecting to Leavitt’s position and response?

Rachel, thanks for this heads up! Paranoid? Come on, no one in the Bush Administration would ever hold themselves out as being interested in vigorous debate, on a blog no less, and then try to stifle people who have differing opinions. Change those links and keep the conversation (and democracy) alive! Thanks again!

Apparently, they received so many comments that it caused problems with the blog and they had to import the post multiple times.

I have never heard of that happening before, and I’m not sure I understand why it would be the case, but thanks for your comment.

Thanks for keeping the Secretary accountable. I work for Planned Parenthood, and we need all the help we can get from folks like you.

  5. I think you deserve a medal for all the updates. Seriously, you’re fantastic.

  8. [...] posts, you might notice you’re getting 404 errors when you try to get back to the entries.  Rachel Walden of Women’s Health News posted the new links yesterday.  She is doing an amazing job of keeping up with these entries.  Seriously, she deserves an [...]

  9. [...] Thanks to alert reader Hilary, I learned that the URL I previously posted for submitting public comments on HHS’s proposed “conscience” rule is broken. I seriously do not know what is up with that, for lack of a more eloquent response. You may recall that when HHS Secretary Leavitt posted his initial blog post on the topic, that link kept changing as well. [...]
