Democratic Party Platform on Abortion

Posted by Rachel on August 14, 2008

Christine covered the new draft Democratic Party Platform section on abortion yesterday for the Our Bodies Ourselves blog, and compares the relevant sections from 2004 and today. The new version gets rid of the “safe, legal and rare” language and adds language about access to family planning services and comprehensive sex education. It also declares that:

The Democratic Party also strongly supports a woman’s decision to have a child by ensuring access to and availability of programs for pre- and post-natal health care, parenting skills, income support, and caring adoption programs.

Christine has links to additional commentary on the platform. More blogs on the topic (feel free to point to more in the comments):

PS: Just a reminder that the OBOS blog has been upgraded, and you can now leave comments without waiting for us to struggle with the admin tool and moderate your comment. Head on over and drop us a line.

  2. Totally agree with pre- and post-natal health care, parenting skills etc. but don’t forget how important prevention can be when required. CG
