Sexy Librarian Rage & Banned Books Week
A woman in Lewiston, Maine checked out copies of the book “It’s Perfectly Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing Up, Sex and Sexual Health” from two public libraries and is refusing to return them, stating in a letter, “I have been sufficiently horrified of the illustrations and sexually graphic, amoral, abnormal contents. I will not be returning the books.”
Uh, yeah, because accurate information about your body is “abnormal,” and those are the only two copies of the book in the world – the library couldn’t possibly just buy new ones. Oh, wait:
Both libraries have ordered replacements for the books Karkos took. Speers ordered two more copies because of an increase in requests for the book after the (Lewiston) Sun Journal published a letter from Karkos condemning the book.
Also? This is what we refer to as “theft.” Wonder if she thinks theft is “amoral?”
Librarians turned up on the Jezebel thread on the story, with a number of colorful responses, including talk of sexy librarians and librarian rage.
Banned Books Week starts on September 29th. Why not support your local library and see if they need donations, or let them know you support their standing up to folks like Karkos?

“I have been sufficiently horrified of the illustrations and sexually graphic, amoral, abnormal contents. I will not be returning the books.”
“So horrified that I plan to keep the books and peruse them hourly. In horror. I will peruse the sexually graphic illustrations half-hourly. Because they are extra horrifying!”
Kat, I secretly giggled at the same idea.
I contacted the library and offered to overnight them a copy to replace it. The librarian said people had sent them several copies already – so many so that they were giving copies to other libraries.
Caitlain, you’re awesome.
very nice !!!
