Applebee’s Nurse Out Coverage
Yesterday, folks gathered at Applebee’s restaurants around the country in response to one location’s treatment of a breastfeeding mama and the subsequent inadequate corporate response. The corporate response has since shifted, according to WTVQ:
“Our goal as restaurant operators is to provide a great dining experience for all our guests. This situation has provided an opportunity for us to work with our associates to ensure we’re making nursing mothers feel welcome….we will also accommodate other guest who would be more comfortable moving to another area of the restaurant.”

In related news, Breastfeeding 123 reports that Facebook has been removing breastfeeding pictures, arguing that they are “obscene.”

Why is it that even their new and improved official stance puts these supposedly offended other customers right in the statement? Do they really think people are so hypersexualized that they will demand to be moved in such great numbers that these needs to be addressed in their statement?
I don’t know why I continue to be amazed that people react to this. I am an idealist and an optimist, I guess, and I pretend sometimes that Americans aren’t reactionary offensive idiots. I will not read through those comments on those articles that prove why we still need breastfeeding protections because I get so irritated.
Hilary, I do not know. Chin up, we’re working on it, you know?
Personally, I think anyone who is “offended” by breasfeeding (or breasts or, for that matter, bodies in general) are either idiots or need some serious counseling.
