The event is open to the public. “MCE” is “Medical Center East.” More information on the Women’s Education and Lactation Center is provided online:
The Women’s Education and Lactation Center (WELC) offers a variety of tours and education classes designed to help you prepare for childbirth and parenting. We also offer assistance and support to breastfeeding families through inpatient and outpatient consultation, telephone consultations, sale of breast pumps and other related breastfeeding supplies, and rental of hospital-grade breast pumps. Our staff are registered nurses and board certified lactation consultants.
The information on the childbirth education courses is not detailed enough to suit my tastes – it’s not possible to tell what the philosophy of the institution is. The “crash course” includes “information about labor and delivery, anesthesia, epidurals, cesarean sections, [and] postpartum care.” Any of you birth professionals want to comment on what you’d like to see in a description of a childbirth ed class?

The wife is going to Vanderbilt for her deliver. We’re using a Midwife group that has privleges at Vanderbilt’s LDR floor. When we toured the facilities they seemed pretty open minded. They allow a woman’s partner and one other person in the labor & delivery room, which seems designed for doullas.
But that’s a quick impression based on being there for an hour. And a male impression at that, so make what you will of it.
Thanks, W. FYI – patient family members get medical library access at Vanderbilt, should you find yourself there and wanting to use the internet.
Thanks for the heads up! I will try to make it.
Thanks
