STD Wizard

Posted by Rachel on June 17, 2007

The STD Wizard is intended to give you a quick online way to figure out if you’re at risk of certain sexually transmitted infections and so should go to a doctor to get tested. Questions include your age, race, state, and gender, but you’re never asked for more identifying information. The health-related questions are very frank, with the first one on my assessment being, “Have you ever had vaginal sex with a male?” Additional questions ask about whether you’ve had past screening tests or vaccines (such as for Hepatitis B), symptoms you may have (such as pelvic pain), and your sexual and other risky behavior.

After you answer all of the questions, you get a results page with recommendations (such as getting an HIV test) and can print your answers and recommendations to share with your clinician. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for links to fact sheets for STDs for which your answers indicated you may be at risk.

The site was developed by Expert Health Data Programming, Inc. and The Medical Institute for Sexual Health, with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (ATPR).
