June 16, 2007

07copay_300x250.gifThe Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is offering a co-pay assistance programs to patients with blood cancers, including myeloma, Hodgkin lymphoma (“Hodgkin’s disease”), non-Hodgkin lymphoma, acute myelogenous leukemia, and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). The assistance can be applied to private health insurance premiums, private insurance co-pays, and Medicare Part B, Medicare Plan D, Medicare Supplementary Health Insurance and Medicare Advantage premium or co-pay obligations. Prescription drug coverage “include(s) those supplied to the patient by a pharmacy or administered in an office or hospital by a health care provider.”

Patients whose household income is at or less than 400% above the U.S. federal poverty guidelines are eligible for assistance. Patients who reside in the United States and medically and financially qualify may apply for co-pay assistance up to $1,000 per calendar year. See the co-pay assistance site for additional details and to download the application. You can call (877) 557-2672 to contact the Society with questions.

If you would like to donate to the Society to help fund this and other programs, please visit their Ways to Give page. The Society also provides information about their finances if you would like to check it out before giving. The diseases they’re assisting with can be very expensive to treat – a friend’s little sister had Hodgkin’s, and the money required to pay for her treatment was astounding. Please consider contributing to this cause.

Update: Using the online giving form, you can use the “Occasion” or “Special Handling Instructions” fields to specify that your donation go toward the co-pay assistance program.

You should direct that question directly to a cancer organization, such as the one above; this site is informational only and not affiliated with them.
