Let Someone Know You’re Safe and Well

May 10, 2007

This is the sort of web resource you and your loved ones really need to know about before you need it – the Red Cross’s Safe and Well website allows individuals affected by a disaster (such as a hurricane or tornado) to register themselves as “safe and well,” with contact information and details like, “currently at a shelter” or “currently at a hotel.” Friends and family can also search the database for registered individuals, using name and phone or address information. You might consider including this site as you develop and go over your family disaster plan.

I’ve added the link to the “Emergencies and Abuse” list on the “Useful Health Information Links” page, should you ever need it.

Found via Marylaine Block’s “Neat New Stuff.”

this is an excellent service of red cross trying to import the technologic necessities into disaster zone and help as many registered to possibly locate themselves and get in touch with families afar. So much more effective than in old days putting up posters etc.
